I've received a court demand for payment
It is a payment order procedure (proceso monitorio): you have twenty days to pay or to oppose it in writing. If you do neither, the creditor can ask for enforcement.
How long you have
Twenty days from the demand to pay, proving it to the court, or to explain in writing why you do not owe that amount, or not all of it.
If you neither pay nor oppose
The court closes the payment order procedure, and the creditor only has to ask for enforcement to be ordered, without waiting the twenty days that article 548 requires in other cases.
Why you should not let it pass
If you do not oppose in time, you will not be able to dispute that amount later in an ordinary trial.
If you oppose
The matter will be decided in a trial. Depending on the amount, your statement of opposition will have to be signed by a lawyer and a court representative (procurador).
